La Calzada 2010

El Salvador, February 26th, 2010.

Dear Friends,

During the month of February, I had the opportunity to travel to Antigua Guatemala and spend time at the YWAM Base. During this visit, I was able to get involved in their “Soup Run” Ministry. We went around the central park in Antigua Guatemala and gave hot soup to people who sleep in the street. Most of them were drunk people, but yet, they were very thankful to receive some food from us. We got to pray for some of them. After bringing food to street people in a rainy and cold evening, I have started to appreciate even more the warm meals that I get to have every day.

When I came back to El Salvador, I spent one week with a Mission Team that came down from Roberts Wesleyan College in New York. Their main focus was soccer. They had soccer clinics for kids and they also got to play soccer matches with unbelievers from different communities around San Salvador.

They also got to do devotionals for the kids and to share some of their testimonies before and/or after the games. On last day of their trip, we got to visit a remote island off the coast of El Salvador.

This island, La Calzada, is part of El Salvador, but apparently nobody is taking care of the people there. They do not have a clinic or hospital that they can visit when they get sick. And they do not have a “formal school” that they can attend. They basically only learn to read and write.

“Christ for the City” is the organization that found this community and they are willing to help them in any way they can. Next month, I will be helping a Medical Team from the United States that is coming to meet the physical needs of the community.

January 2010

El Salvador, January 16th, 2010.

Dear Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's Day with family and friends.

During the last month, I have had the privilege to help two different Mission Teams that came down to El Salvador. It is always amazing to see different cultures come together to be in unity through God's Holy Spirit to accomplish one task...to express His Love and to enhance God's Kindgom.

Future plans...

United States, August 25th, 2009.

Dear Friends,

It is always a joy to be able to write to you and tell you how much I enjoy seeing God working every day in my life. Our lives and days are definitely full of God’s blessings, aren’t they?

I wanted to share with you some of my future plans. I will be flying back to El Salvador on October 10th. The week after I get there, I will be interpreting for a friend who is coming from England to meet with 2 children who she is sponsoring through Compassion International. We will meet with the children and their families on two different days. We will also be visiting other Salvadorian ministries in El Salvador.

The next month, I am planning on traveling to the Youth with a Mission Base in Antigua Guatemala. I will spend 2 weeks there (November 1st-14th). I will be interpreting for the Discipleship Training School students.

Atlanta, July 14th, 2009.

Dear Friends,

I am at the Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Base in Atlanta (United States). It feels good and great being able to worship God, to hear His voice, to intercede, and to spend time of fellowship with my YWAM family.

Last Sunday, I had the privilege to share a teaching based on Matthew 14:23-32 with a Missionary Church in Robbinsville, North Carolina. This passage depicts the story of Jesus walking on waters. I learned four main points from the story.

1. Watching someone do something out of my comfort zone may be terrifying. (Jesus walking on waters).
2. Jesus is encouraging and inviting me to be where He is by doing what He is doing. (He said, "Come!")
3. I have to do my part. (Getting out of the boat).
4. I may still fall, but Jesus will be there to catch me.

Some questions to ask ourselves...

a. What does God want me to do that is out of my comfort zone?
b. Who do I need to talk to?
c. Where do I need to go?
d. What do I need to say?

I am still in the United States having a great time with friends!

I have been able to share about my life and missions in some Vacation Bible Schools, Sunday School classes, Kid's camps, and families.

I have also had the opportunity to play some...

And I got to run a 5K race! Fun!

A couple of days ago, my little host brother (Adam) and I had a great time fishing while enjoying God's creation!

It´s time to learn...

The Discipleship Training School has already started at YWAM El Salvador!

This is a new exciting challenge for me because I will be interpreting most of the classes and activities for Simo-Ott – our student from Estonia. This means that I will use English vocabulary from Europe and not from the United States as I am used to. For instance, I will say "mobile" instead of "cell phone." There will also be concepts to explain to him because of this “new Salvadorian culture” he is living in.

Regarding the Bible lessons, it feels like I will have Aaron’s position and responsibility to convey God’s message through a Moses (a teacher). On Exodus 4:15 and 16, God tells Moses, “You shall speak to him (Aaron) and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people (Simo-Ott) for you, and it will be as if he (Aaron) were your mouth and as if you (Moses) were God to him.”

We will be teaching/learning one-week lessons on topics such as "How to Hear God´s Voice", "Quiet Time", "Intercession", "Fasting", "Biblical Worldview", "Evangelism", and "Missions."

There will be a total of 12 weeks of lecture and then the students will go on outreach for 8 weeks to share what they have learned in their training. That is why our motto is "To know God to make Him Known!"

Prayer requests

1. That I may be a cultural interpreter between Simo and Salvadorians.
2. That I will be able to convey God’s message with accuracy to Simo.
3. The planning and resources for a 4-month trip to the United States.
4. My family
5. Elections for President in El Salvador in March.
